Tamarind as Traditional Medicine

Tamarind have many benefit to our body. Some of body abnormal can be treated with tamarind, such as sore throat or diphtheria, dry cough, ulcers, low blood, thrush, vaginal discharge, and measles.

Tamarind is a rod shaped fruit and seeds with a length 3.5 to 20 cm and 2.5 cm in thick. Tamarind have soft outer shell with a brown and fleshy fruit and sour taste. The young fruit color is white inside and after ripe turn to brown. To eat this tamarind fruit can directly but usually mixed with water to make tamarind juice, or tamarind drink.

Tamarind fruit contain of many important substance for our body such as; tatrat acid, malate, citrate, succinate, acetate. The tamarind acid is believed to facilitate bowel movement and blood circulation. The leaves contain flavonoids which can use as anti-inflammatory and pain relief.

According traditional medicinal expert, tamarind leaves is believed to reduced the body heat and can increase appetite. Tartrat acid on the tamarind can function as laxative for those who has difficult bowel movements. Tamarind also can use to destroy fat, in the consume tamarind can mixed with other traditional medicine like ginger, noni fruit, and others.
